Der Weg zurück von der Aoosbrücke war nicht weniger interessant als vorher … die Berge die gleichen … aber diesmal verdrehten wir uns den Hals mal nach rechts statt nach links.

In Tsepelovo ergab sich die allererste Chance, was zu essen zu kriegen. Und nicht nur das … ich traute meinen Augen nicht … unsere Gesellschaft am Tisch war Susanne! Die Schäferhündin, die mit uns vor 9 Jahren (Seite Zagoria 06) genau von hier aus den Weg über Beloi nach Koukouli gelaufen war!

Susanne … Susanne mit dem Knickohr! Müde und grau an der Schnauze war die Hunde-Oma inzwischen. Und sie verließ auch das Dorf nicht mehr, wie uns der Tavernenwirt versicherte. Appetit auf Keftedes und Patates hatte sie aber immer noch.

Roy Hounsell hat Susanne und ihre Schäferhund-Instinkte in “The Papas and the Englishman” (Seite Zagoria 20) ebenfalls beschrieben: “On several occasions, setting out from Tsepelovo, they have been joined by a shaggy black dog which happily walks the fourteen kilometres to Monodendri. The only thing that worries her is if a member of the group lingers or gets ahead, and then she anxiously runs to and fro, shepherding them back into line. When the group reaches their destination they have to telephone Alex Gouris to alert the owners so they know to come and pick her up, but she’s always most reluctant to leave her flock behind.”

Wir hatten uns den ganzen Tag lang die Landschaft im Auto ja “ersessen”. Und wir fühlten uns noch nicht ganz so greisenhaft wie Susanne. Also noch schnell die sechs Kilometer Straße bis zum Vradheto-Abzweig. Und von da aus zu Fuß runter ins Mezaria-Tal und dann wenigstens einmal die 900 Vradheto-Stufen rauf und wieder runter …

Yes, it is relatively close. It is about 50 minutes by car from Ioannina, but the road to, it is much more difficult than this to Zagorohoria. In any case, if you are planning to visit these villages, i would strongly recommend you to drink some special mountain tea at a kafeneio, named “the nature’s secrets’ in the central plateia of Kalarrites! You could also spend some time taking a bath, …yes, i am not joking, in a natural lake created by the river’s Kalarritikos water falls, near Kouiasa mule!
